The answer would surprise you.  My Grandma used to love sharing her recipes at church with the others who decided not to buy her food at the bake sale. The recipe she shared never seemed to give the same flavor as the gourmet delights she used to sell on Sundays. The flavor of those recipes comes from the experience she had while she was cooking. Other than a simple recipe a cooking process is more than putting together pieces like a math equation. For this reason she knew that her recipes were always safe because the person doing the cooking didn't have have the same experience as she did during those critical moments of the preparation or cooking process. As with cooking there are other professions which can't be described in such a way that allows someone to get the same results as someone who carries with them the same experience.

Proactive vs. Reactive

Free Lunch for Free Advice How do we explain what didn't happen when we know what would have happened if we had not done what we had done? Catch-22: Many times I am forced to send a client off to try something on their own because until they have their own experience in any given situation they may not appreciate the value of the person they are paying to guide them. As a humble consultant it's not always easy to tell a curious client that no matter how much they study there actually is a skill level to doing what they just don't have the experience to do effectively. For this reason, buying lunch to pick the brain of your consultant may not bring the results you expect. It may just give you nothing more than a recipe from Grandma. The experience of any profession often times comes in the ability to be proactive by preventing things often encountered by people with less experience in your area of expertise. Moreso it is terribly difficult to articulate how many disasters were prevented by things which we do. As a client it is often difficult to put your trust and investment into a person when human nature says to go to Youtube or research how to accomplish something. I encourage this from anyone willing to try because this is how we learn. The challenge is to delegate when something is best suited for a higher level of skill or experience. This is where it gets tricky because in this field, as well as others, there are things we help clients avoid which reduce or eliminate cost overruns or delays. One of the greatest challenges of course is that my profession has no title that is as clean as many others. What Is Technology Consulting Service? Technology Consultant disguised as the "computer repair guy": This is a collective title which includes a history of experience that can be applied to any number of scenarios in order to help people make decisions in their projects. In the course of my career I've had the privilege of wearing many hats and some of those hats were given to me by circumstance. Often times the circumstance is that the industry didn't yet have a title for what I do so I was put into an area where my background and skill was suited to get something done. As a result of these experiences my crossover into many technical areas has been extremely diverse and quite colorful. With this title comes a list of many experiences: By working in all of these areas I'm able to supervise the work of others who carry the skill sets in each task. The background gives me what I need to oversee and make sure that the talent doing the work is doing it in the most effective, proactive, cognitive way possible. When put to task to do these things on my own I quite possible will do them slower or by my age unable to do them as well as industry experts. For this reason I delegate my work to professionals who do it better than I do. They do it under my supervision so I can assure my clients that their work is being done at the highest quality possible. We might struggle to watch any other person doing work but under this supervision we are accomplishing many things: 1.) Teaching a new generation of experts to do their work even better 2.) Delagating so we can use our time more effectively with quality oversight over a complete project

How much will you save on your project...

by using a meal or drinks as the payment method to expert feedback?

Measure Twice: Cut Once

On average I cut a client cost in half whether they are able to see it before or after. Based on the experience of my work I can see where costs can grow and decisions we make help avoid those all too common situations. Advice obtained during a well-meaning meal or drink will rarely be sufficient to prepare someone for all of the situations that come during any given moment of an I.T. project. Many folks enjoy being invited somewhere. Sometimes others prefer to stay home with their family after spending their time working outside of home. In my world I don't get invited to go many places because I'm better at technical things than I am in social situations. For this reason I don't appear in many pictures. Let's imagine for a moment though that a person offering any number of services was rarely, or never, invited to join friends but the same people ask for the friends and family discount. I may not invite myself places either so I get it. Us geeks have odd personalities. Regardless of our quirky behavior the value of the experience and feedback is still worthy of more than food or drinks. And of course if you want to add a different flavor to a social gathering invite someone who isn't always the same as everyone else. Maybe you'll get a good deal on your next tech project or accidentally make a friend with an odd personality.

Email Phishing Scams – Keep Your Eyes Open before Clicking

The rules are simple.
When you drive a car you get a license and take classes to understand the rules of the road.
Using a computer and using the Internet require a minimum attention span to help individuals protect themselves..
Beware of email phishing scams that lure you into a site or other link where you think there is something legitimate to find. In this case I am sharing a random email from a collection I receive on a daily basis. This one is disguised as a voice mail message from an online messaging service.
When I hold my mouse over the links though I can see that they point to .php scripts, or otherwise Non safe locations.

WeTransfer.com Account Hijacking Alert

If you get an email from an email address you recognize that directs you to download something from WeTransfer.com then there is a big chance it is a scam if you normally don't receive these.
We just received one here and by checking the URL of where it asks to login using a social media account it is then easy to tell that it is coming from a rogue website.

Dirty Secrets of Internet Marketing – Stop Trying to Be your own SEO Expert

Yes, believe it or not this still is anything but a Do It Yourselfer industry. Now that we got that out of the way….here is the path you need to follow if you want to take your business seriously.
Be the business owner or manager and focus on your business. Micromanaging processes that are outside of your scope of expertise will only frustrate and irritate the people who are getting paid to help you.
SEO, Technical SEO, Internet Security, hacker threat prevention, fraud detection and a myriad of other things are best handled by the people who do it for a living.
Even for a small town auto mechanic the online threats are alive and well waiting to get into your website and anything you have online. It only takes one point of entry to cost the unsuspecting, or non believers, into paying sometimes thousands of dollars  in lost revenue, reputation and other possible crippling effects.
Even though you might continue working offline the online business can be affected by negative reviews due to a breach of a website. This can affect your reputation in the community if people think your website is not unsafe.
This is just a cross section of reasons why the DIY needs to re consider trying to DIY. It’s not worth it.

WHY should the work be outsources to experts (plural) and not a friend who “knows computers” or a Web Designer?

1.) Web Designers are web designers. I personally can build websites but work in the technical side of the industry by choice.
Mechanics modify race cars to make them outperform the competition. These are your Technical SEO and performance pros.
Body shops paint the cars to make them look nice for the sponsors and the fans. These are your website designers.
Race car drivers drive the cars. This is the business owner and the customer.
Artistic work is a different mentality altogether than a high level technical aptitude that is needed to manage the 100s if not 1000s of factors that make managing a powerful website successful. A business owner and a website designer can’t have the cutting edge if they have to focus on their normal every day work.

How to avoid getting screwed by a service

Keep ownership of everything. Accounts should be set up by 3rd party services in your name, company name, internal emails addresses, etc. You should always be able to walk away from a service provider with minimal complications.
Sometimes it’s easier to let someone else set things up but at the very least try to have them add your email as Admin or otherwise in order to maintain ultimate ownership control of an account.
Listen to your Google Analytics
This is where people get screwed. The most common response I get is that Analytics is too complicated and doesn’t seem important.
YES IT IS!! It’s complicated and it’s important.
If you’re not studying your Analytics you’re only hurting yourself and your business. If your SEO team is not giving feedback on Analytics then something needs to change.
Analytics shows you where the sources of customers are and what strengths from your website are the most effective. A good Analytics reading every 30 days can change the course of a business marketing strategy.
Ignoring the importance of Analytics and not responding to recommendations can cost lost business and turn current customers away.
Bathroom Reading
If you’re not already in the bathroom reading this along with People magazine and Reader’s Digest then I suggest a quick read here from one of my favorites regarding Technical SEO. This is one of many articles that sums up some of the basics. There are others and I encourage reading them as well. Ultimately you need to understand that there things that average people don’t understand. Performance tuning a website and the machine behind the scenes is critical for security, speed, multiple mobile devices, viewing sizes, browser types, payment methods, sharing, and more.

CF Mason – HGIC – Unleash Your Geek, Inc.

When you’re ready to do it right speak to an expert about evaluating your current situation. There is no such thing as a cookie cutter solution to SEO or website development. All websites are built differently to function with different types of businesses. The back end as well needs to be tuned to work with your method of running the business.
For this and so many more reasons there is no shame in outsourcing because you’re “computer illiterate”.
I visit a doctor for medical and a transmission specialist for my car.
I go to a Technical SEO expert to handle my site. In this case it’s myself but you get the idea.
For more info send me a note on any social media and I’ll be happy to help you out to see where you’re at.
Cheers!

Fraud Protection on the Short term

The bad guys that have this debit card data are not going to attack online merchants for goods that they will have to convert to cash. They have been walking straight to the ATMs for the green dollar.

Fraud Protection on the long term

The impact on merchants in the CNP world will be minimal; certainly no more than a few numbers of credit cards but probably less. I do not think the CP merchants will feel it much either. Consumers, on the other hand, are going to take a huge hit. As you probably know, credit card holder's liability is limited to $50 under FTC regulations but I do not think there is any such limit for debit cards. The card holder is responsible for keeping the PIN private and shame on him if it gets out and he does not report the card stolen.

Website Speed and Server Security

They work hand in hand.
By fine tuning the speed of the website the files on the website (like scripts, themes, style sheets/css) are being optimized as well. This will usually mean that they are getting enhanced security and updates in the process.
Having a nice looking website is important but having a secure site that loads fast and that is a step ahead of your competition is vital to having the strategic edge in this competitive market place.
An effective website performance process can be 100s of steps long and take months to accomplish.
On a basic site it can be done in as little as a day if everything is in place to have the work done.
Don’t let these things get overlooked or put off for too long. They should be done during the development process so that the same steps don’t have to be done more than once.

Inter Galactic Cyber Marketing Frenzied Extravagana

As digital marketing is becoming more and more necessary for a company, not understanding the best way to drive your business forward can really hurt your chances of success. If you are looking for a way to improve your digital marketing efforts, here are 10 of the highest performing strategies that can bring more people to your website, allow you to connect with new or returning customers, and create a digital marketing strategy that works.

Use the Right Web Design

We don’t often think about web design as a marketing tactic, but it can influence the amount of time and attention a user will spend on your page. Your website is the center of all your digital marketing efforts, so if your page is not clean, easy to read, and interesting, it won’t matter how much time you put into strategy development – you’re still going to lose customers. Create a website that is up-to-date, attention-grabbing, and most of all, mobile friendly.

Utilize Search Engine Marketing and Optimization

Search engine marketing and optimization allow your name and website to appear on a list of search engine results. With a strong SEO strategy, your company website will become associated with the keywords used to find your services. This increases your chances of being the company an individual chooses to work with when selecting a company that offers your services or products.

Utilize Affiliate and Associate Programs

An affiliate or associate program doesn’t make sense for every business. However, if you do use these, you can quickly see your marketing efforts improve without needing to do much yourself. With an affiliate program, people who believe in your company can share your information and grow your market on a commission-based platform.

Use a Coach or Consultant

If you’re not an expert in digital and internet marketing, ask someone who is. There are hundreds of internet marketing coaches and consultants available to you, many of whom can give you a consultation about what you should change to see success. For small business owners who need to focus on other business systems, a coach or consultant can be extremely helpful.

Use Email Marketing

It isn’t enough to just send out emails. You will want to consider various email lists that cater to the specific needs of each individual and can present a personalized approach to your campaign. Take a hard and clear look at the purchasing habits of your customers and use that information to develop your strategy.

Use an Opt-In Email List

An opt-in email list allows customers to come to you and sign up to receive email campaigns and correspondence. This allows you to connect with new customers or clients.

Use Articles or News Stories

Having your name and information listed in other locations on the web can help you grow your company and business. This makes your name visible in an area where customers and clients are already looking and also allows you to become a trusted source of products or services.

Write Online Press Releases

When you use online press releases, you’re getting your information out there in a formal setting. This allows newspapers, blogs, or other media sources to see your information and write posts about your company without you needing to put in the effort to connect and claim a story.

Use Contests and Giveaways

People love contests and giveaways. Anytime you can encourage marketing from your customers in exchange for a free product or service, you will usually see a surge in purchases or connections.

Maintain a Blog

Your blog should be used for a number of reasons, including allowing you to consistently post new keywords and optimize your search engine strategy. More than that, your blog becomes somewhere you can offer advice, share bits of information, and really connect with your customers.

A lasting relationship begins with trust and your blog is a great way to build that.

A strong online marketing strategy will help you to boost your business and start seeing more customers, connections, and clients. These 10 strategies have been proven to help companies gain new exposure. By following the above tips you’ll be on your way to creating a concrete internet marketing strategy that could boost your business substantially.
